Creating D Details for the Bottom of Villa Savoye

You can add detail to the bottom of the building, too. Start off by orbiting around to view the bottom; then draw a rectangle at the back. Start your rectangle on the edge where there are no columns, and draw it back toward the middle of the building. Use Push/Pull to pull the bottom so that it's aligned with the bottom of the columns, as shown in Figure 10-22.

Figure 10-22:

Here the villa is viewed from the bottom. The ground-level detail is drawn on the face of the model and then pulled out to align with the bottom of the columns.

Click the "villa_savoye_back (2D)" tab to see the new detail from the back of the building. Some of the faces show the photo projected on the new geometry. If you want to project the image on additional faces, preselect the face with the Select (space bar) tool. Then right-click the face and choose Project Photo. See Figure 10-23.

Use the Push/Pull tool to position the walls of the ground floor. The photo gives you clues for the position of the walls. The ground floor has a curve at the front of the building. Draw a curve with the Arc tool, and then use Push/Pull to align the new section with the rectangular section (Figure 10-24).

Figure 10-23:

You can project the photo image onto the faces at the bottom ofthe building, even if the faces are set in from the other walls. Use Push/Pull to adjust the geometry of the model to match the building.

When you're done, you can view your model in Sketch Over view with the photo in the background (top: Figure 10-25). Or you can view it as a model with photo textures applied to some of the surfaces, as shown at the bottom of Figure 10-25.
